Barrie WilliamsA lot’s changed since I first started in the consumer credit sector over 35 years ago, but one thing’s still the same – lots of early morning starts! I’m always up and out of the house at the crack of dawn in order to fit in three or four meetings each day (on the rare occasion I get to work from home, I spend it catching up with emails).

Fortunately, I love driving and I’m on course to cover over 45,000 miles this year as I split my time between Scotland, Northern Ireland and East Anglia.  Today, I’m staying a little closer to home with a drive down the A9 and M80 into Glasgow.

Years ago, I’d find myself queuing for the phone box at the motorway services in order to stay in touch with the office. Not anymore, thanks to my iPad and smartphone it’s easy to stay in contact with the Business Support team, who keep me armed with management information.

And that’s really helpful as my first call is a monthly sales development meeting with a Window and Conservatory business – and it means I’ve got all the data at my fingertips to ensure the meeting is focused and productive.

Nearly lunchtime and I’m off to a compliance review with a renewable energy company followed by a sales call with a potential new client.  Having the opportunity to meet a cross mix of businesses is why I enjoy my role as Business Development Manager so much.

Before I know it, it’s after 5pm, and the long drive home is good opportunity to update the office and admire the fantastic views across Stirling Castle to the Wallace monument.
