A new report by AMA Research has found that the UK bathroom product market achieved value growth of 3% last year, and is expected to grow by a further 12% over the next four years.

However, the research noted that the “pace of growth” did slow in 2017 compared with the previous two to three years, and modest growth is expected this year and in 2019. Lower levels of consumer and business confidence affected the rate of growth for the market, AMA said.

According to the report, the “growing consumer preference” for minimalist, wall-hung and counter top designs “will impact volume demand for sanitaryware” and will support growth of installation frame and prefabricated products. Space-saving solutions such as wall-hung sanitaryware, slim-line basins and compact shower baths are continuing to grow in popularity.

“The wide variation in UK bathroom size will continue to provide opportunities for product development to suit the various types of bathrooms such as ensuite [and] cloakroom installations,” said AMA research manager Hayley Thornley.

“Modern, digital and advanced technology, such as digital taps and sensors to control temperature and flow, motion sensor LED mirrors and Bluetooth entertainment systems, will become more widely used in the bathroom as consumers and businesses become increasingly aware of their benefits,” she added. “Consumers are demanding quality products that will last and use the internet to search for the best deals available.”
